The Southern California FUN Gardening Club
‘One that doesn't focus on roses or orchids or anything too scientific’
***
We are always looking for members ready to have some FUN and share their passion for gardening and plants. We want to hear from you if you live in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino or San Diego Counties. We look forward to your membership, joining is simple and free you just have to register. This club is not meant to replace GardenWeb just keep us a little closer to local people and events with the use of our own message board and newsletter.
We can look forward to the cooler temperatures this fall when we will really be able to get out and enjoy southern California gardens and our new club. Please send your ideas to our Event Coordinator Tracy she will be contacting different local Arboretums and Botanical Gardens and find out about group rates and tours that would be available to our club.

December Plant Swap
Saturday December 6 from 12:00-2:30 pm in Norco. Due to
football games and Thanksgiving weekend, Norco_Bill will continue in our usual
practice of arriving between 11:00 and 12:00....sharing lunch and conversation
and exchange plants at 12:30. Bill will supply the hotdogs and buns. Here's
directions to Bill’s house. If you are coming from Orange County area. Take the
91 into Corona. Get off at the Lincoln exit. Take Lincoln north to River Road.
Turn left on River Road (west). Stay on River Road and when you cross Corydon,
there will be a big open field on the left hand side of the road. It is the
first house on the left hand side (2651 River Road). It has a semi circle
driveway, and you should see the cannas growing above the bricks and fence
(unless the Santa Anna winds get them). Bill’s telephone number is
909-734-2875.
If you are coming up or down the 15, take the second street exit west
(south) to River Road. Turn right (west) and stay on River Road, just past
Corydon Road.

August Plant Swap click to see pictures
PLANT SWAP - Host: Sanda
Date: Saturday August 30, 2003 - Time: 11:00AM – 3:00 PM (BBQ lunch will be
served at 12:00, trading will begin at 12:30)
Place: Buena Park, Ca -- 91fwy/5fwy/Beach Blvd. Please E-mail me directly for
address and directions
Participation and “what to expect” at the plant swap:
· Bring your extra-unwanted plants or seeds. Typically gardeners might be
dividing (thinning out) plants or have made extra cuttings and now find
themselves with extra plants. Although you may feel that no one will want some
of the plants you bring – you may be surprised. “One’s garden junk is another
gardener’s treasure.” If you have a plant that doesn’t suit your space then dig
it up, put it in a plastic container, and bring it to the swap. Chances are, no
one will take home the plants that they brought, and in the end all gardeners
are happy with their new finds.
· Try to show up around 11 A.M. This will give you time to unload your plants
and set them up so that they are easily viewed.
· You can now meet the other gardeners and look at the plants that they brought.
If you see interesting plants that you would like to take home make mental
notes of their locations.
· All gardeners will wear nametags; this is for those of us who have trouble
remembering names. The host will provide these nametags.
· At 12:00 PM sharp, lunch will be served.
At 12:30, the host will begin the trading.
For starters, it’s nice if everyone introduces themselves to the group and says
a few words about the plants that they brought or tells us a bit about their
garden interests. The name of each gardener that brought plants will be written
on a piece of paper and placed in a hat. These names will be randomly drawn and
written down in the order they were drawn. We now take turns picking plants (in
the order of this list). To keep things simple, once the person at the bottom
of the list selects a plant we then go up to the top of the list and repeat the
process. After everyone has picked three to four times, we will then revert to
a “pick two plants” to speed up the plant selection process if everyone agrees.
Picking plants from a large selection is sometimes overwhelming and time
consuming. If each gardener picks his/her favorites ahead of time, the plant
selection process can be accomplished within one to two hours.
Looking forward to meeting new garden friends and hosting a great swap!
